Tips
Good reasons for using older software
- Older software versions are generally cheaper than newer ones. Try shopping on ebay or in clearance or end of line sales to get the best bargains.
- Newer applications do more and therefore require more resources. Applications that need more memory use, more computing power and more hard drive capacity can mean your computer lacks the power to cope with the software.
- Newer applications are not always backwards compatible and can lead to problems when used on machines and operating systems that predate the software.
- There is a learning curve associated with using newer applications and this might prove costly in the short term as people will have to be re-trained.
- If your IT infrastructure is working perfectly well, avoid getting brand new software just for the sake of it. If it is not broken, don’t fix it!
