Small businesses to be represented in Business Council
As a consequence of the cabinet reshuffle last year, Gordon Brown replaced the Small Business Council with the Business Council, which many felt left small businesses under-represented.
After much criticism, the Business Council will now set up a working group of entrepreneurs to advise it on issues affecting small businesses.
Mervyn Davies (Chairman, British Council), said “the new group would focus on barriers to setting up and growing small business.
Talking to the Financial Times, Mr Davies went on to say “we have absolutely got to reduce the regulation and the red tape for small business; that’s a very pressing challenge. And we’ve got to help small businesses grow internationally without building their cost base”.
Mr Davies is upbeat about the challenge for business in the UK saying that "the spirit of entrepreneurialism is increasing" citing TV programs such as Dragon’s Den and The Apprentice as being positive influences.
